Montreal Steppers is a performance collective and nonprofit organization dedicated to the art of step, a dance form rooted in the Black diaspora that uses the body as an instrument to create rhythms and percussion through foot stomps, hand claps, and chants.

The collective’s work centers the realities and aspirations of the most marginalized communities, creating spaces, initiatives, and opportunities for collaboration that bring communities together to support one another and grow collectively.

Founded in 2019, the collective uses step as a tool to foster dialogue around the importance of Black art, the lived experiences of Black communities, and Black history in Canada through workshops and performances. Montreal Steppers has delivered educational workshops to more than 25,000 participants across Canada.
